Starting a module: watch, listen, or read the analogy
Every module opens with a friendly explanation of the concept, told through an analogy so it's easy for a child to understand. When you open a module, for example "The Vowel Five," you'll see three tabs at the top: Video, Audio, and Analogy.
- Video plays a short presenter-led explanation of the concept, around two to three minutes.
- Audio is the same explanation to listen to, handy for a screen-free moment or listening on the go.
- Analogy is the concept written out to read together.
They cover the same idea in three formats, so you and your child can choose whichever suits the moment. It's worth watching or reading this together before your child starts, so the concept is familiar when they begin practising.
Working through the module
Below the analogy, the module shows "Your chapter path," a simple sequence your child works through in order. Each module is made up of a few chapters (usually two to five), and each chapter holds a handful of short lessons. Your child works through the lessons one at a time, gradually getting a little more independent as they go.
What a lesson is like
Each lesson is a single, playful activity rather than a long sitting or a bundle of different things. Depending on the concept, your child might:
- Listen to a sound and tap the matching letter, picture, or word.
- Drag letters or word parts into place to build a word.
- Read a short sentence, story, or comic strip and tap the words they recognise.
- Guess a sound or word first, then hear the answer to check.
How a module feels from your child's seat
The lessons are designed to flow gently from supported to independent. Early on, your child gets lots of help: audio, pictures, and guided taps. As they progress, the support eases back until they're doing it themselves, like reading a short sentence or spotting words in a little story. From your child's point of view it doesn't feel like separate stages; it feels like one journey through a concept that starts easy and ends with a real "I read it myself" moment.
Earning stars along the way
As your child completes lessons, they earn stars, which show up on their dashboard and in their rewards. Stars are your child's visible sign of progress and a gentle motivator to keep going.
