What Family Updates are

Learning to read is a family affair, and Family Updates let the people who care about your child stay part of the journey. Invite a co-parent, grandparent, or nanny, and they'll receive your child's friendly weekly progress email, with simple ideas to practise phonics at home. It's a warm, low-effort way to keep everyone cheering your child on.

Everyone you invite confirms by email before anything is sent, and each person can unsubscribe at any time.

Inviting a family member

Open Family Updates from the left menu. If you haven't added anyone yet, you'll see a prompt to invite your first family member, with the invite form just below.

In the Invite a family member form, fill in:

  • Name: how you'd like to refer to them, for example "Grandma Sheela."
  • Relationship to child: choose from the list, such as grandparent, co-parent, or nanny.
  • Email: where their weekly update will be sent.
  • Mobile (optional): only needed if you'd like to send updates by WhatsApp later.

Under Which children?, choose whether this person gets updates for All children or only specific ones (useful if you have more than one learner and want to share different children with different people).

If you'd like the update sent by WhatsApp as well as email, tick Also send via WhatsApp. This needs a mobile number, so add one above first.

Finally, tick the box confirming you have this person's permission to share your child's learning updates with them. This is required before you can send.

When everything's filled in, click Send invitation.

How confirmation works

The person you invite receives an email asking them to confirm. Updates only start once they accept, so no one is ever emailed your child's progress without agreeing to it first. This keeps your child's information shared only with people who've actively opted in.

What the weekly update contains

Each week, the people you've invited receive a friendly summary of how your child is doing, along with a few of the same simple, two-minute Practice Ideas you'll find in your own dashboard. It's designed to be encouraging and easy to act on, not a report card.

Managing and unsubscribing

Anyone you've invited can unsubscribe themselves at any time, straight from the email. You stay in control from your side too: your invited family members are listed on the Family Updates page, so you can see who's receiving updates.
