For Parents

Frequently asked questions

Is my child the right age?

PhonicSky is designed for children aged 3 to 9. Younger children start by tuning into sounds and getting comfortable with letters, while older children move faster into blending, spelling rules, and independent reading. Wherever your child is, they begin at Seed and progress at their own pace, so the platform meets them where they are.

Do I need to know phonics myself?

Not at all, and this is one of the things parents love most about PhonicSky. You don't need any background in phonics or teaching. The platform is designed so that simply by going through it alongside your child, you'll naturally pick up how phonics works yourself. The lessons, the analogy videos, and the way concepts build on each other do the teaching for both of you.

Your only real job is to show up. Spend a little time each day on the platform with your child, and that's the effort that matters most. PhonicSky handles the what and the how; you bring the daily encouragement and shared time, and that combination is exactly what turns into confident reading.

How much screen time does this involve?

We keep screen time deliberately small. Your child's daily goal is just three short lessons, and a Kids Mode session automatically ends after 30 minutes. On top of that, our Practice Ideas are designed to be done off the screen, turning everyday moments like car journeys and mealtimes into playful phonics practice. The aim is a little focused learning each day, not long stretches in front of a device.

Can my child use PhonicSky if English isn't our first language?

Yes. PhonicSky teaches English reading through phonics, and it works well for children from any language background. When you set up your child's profile, you can record their mother tongue and the languages spoken at home, and learning starts from the very foundations of English sounds, so no prior English is assumed.

Can more than one child use my account?

Yes. You can add more than one learner, and each child gets their own profile, their own PIN, and their own separate progress. Your subscription includes one learner seat by default; to have a second or third child learning on their own profile, you'll add an extra seat. See the billing pages for how seats and their cost work.

How do I keep my child focused during lessons?

A few things are built in to help. Kids Mode gives your child a distraction-free screen with only their lessons, goal, and rewards, and nothing else to wander into. The daily goal of three short lessons keeps each session bite-sized, and the 30-minute session limit means learning stays focused rather than stretching on. Sitting with your child for the first few lessons, and celebrating their stars and badges afterwards, also goes a long way.
